This coming year is sure to be a memorable one for AAA games. I am particularly looking forward to getting lost in Cyberpunk 2077, but that’s not why you are here. There are a few games that I have been following that I think will really be something special. These games may not release in 2020 but I suspect that we will hear more from these titles in the coming year. So I give you a few games to keep your eye on in 2020. Let’s dig in.
Soundfall
Do you enjoy games like Crypt of the NecroDancer? Well then you may be interested in Soundfall, the dungeon crawling beat em up being developed by Drastic Games. Drastic Games is a small team made up of ex Epic game developers. Soundfall sports some beautiful graphics, fun action, and the ability to upload your own music to the game. In Soundfall levels are generated based on the song you choose. Move and fight to the beat to obtain bonuses and reach the end of the level. I have been following Soundfall for some time and am really excited to get this in my hands. I also had the pleasure of playing the demo, which only features a few levels but I still enjoyed it. You can find out more on the official website, Twitter or join the community Discord server.
ITTA
ITTA is a bullet hell adventure game being developed Glass Revolver that will test your limits. You play as a girl who has lost her family and needs to find answers. You are guided by a cute ghost cat and you must fight difficult monsters to uncover the answer you seek. ITTA looks super intense. From what I have seen from the trailers and teaser content, the action is indeed packed. The interesting thing about ITTA is that under all of the action and bullets, there seems to be a story waiting to be told. IF you like the bullet hell style games, then ITTA might be your cup of team. For more check out the website and Twitter.
Swordcery
Now, to be completely honest, I don’t know much about Swordcery or the developer Temple Door Games. I stumbled upon it one day while scrolling through Twitter. It immediately caught my eye with its neat graphics and the name of the game: Swordcery. From what I can gather from the official website, Swordcery will be a rogue-lite action RPG. What looks cool about this game is that the combat seems like it will be pretty varied in terms of weapons and play styles. There seem to be some really cool abilities and weapon types. This one may be a ways out but be on the lookout for more news on Swordcery in 2020. You can follow Twitter to get updates.
Project Awakening
This may be one of my most anticipated upcoming games. Project Awakening looks to be an action-adventure game where you are tasked with hunting down monsters. Maybe? There may be more to it than that (you can read my trailer breakdown here to get more info on that). But from the limited resources that we have the game looks to be fun, challenging and more than meets the eye. I love a game with sword combat and monsters. The trailer for Project Awakening is really good and I would recommend checking it out to get a good idea of what the game is. Cy Games has not said too much about this yet so I am hoping to hear more this coming year. You can check out the website for videos and screenshots.
Carrion
Devolver Digital is known to be a bit of a wacky bunch, but they always seem to publish superb titles. Carrion looks like it is shaping up to have that same unique quality. Published by Phobia Game Studio, this game is described as a “reverse horror game” and have you act as a giant blob of a monster that is terrorizing the individuals who locked you up. In late 2019 they did release a timed demo to give us a small taste which I thoroughly enjoyed. The last decade had enough of these dumb heroes saving the day. Let’s ring in the new decade by being the monster for a change!
There you have it! This year is sure to be packed with great games. It’s easy to miss smaller games or even games that don’t make the headlines. We hope our little list helps you find some great ones. Onward to 2020!
